Get it right, and quickish, or you could all be off, was the warning.

Sheffield Steelers are planning to quit the city and become tenants of a 5,000 seater twin-pad ice rink to be built at Rother Valley Country Park. The ice hockey club which has had frosty relations with their Sheffield Arena landlords over dates and rent prices, hope to move into Rotherham borough in around 2010. Their rink is envisages as part of the £350m YES! (Yorkshire Entertainment Sensation) project the "biggest undercover leisure and entertainment destination " in Europe.

Steelers owner Bob Phillips will be able to concentrate fully on his Sheffield ice hockey franchise from now on. His family interest in Elite League rivals Cardiff Devils owned by his wife Maraini will soon be over after the pair negotiated the Welsh club's sale to local businessmen Matt Burge, a current sponsor, and Shannon Hope, a former player.

In a close encounter with Cardiff in the semi they won 2-1 after a penalty shot save from Jody Lehman and he set an EIHL record as he shut out the Coventry Blaze, Dan Tessier getting the second after Jonathan Phillips had opened the scoring.

I don't know if I was more nervous or excited after Dave Matsos gave me such a huge honour.  When Malts got injured Dave Matsos approached me at practice and told me I was his new captain, I thought it was until Malts was back but he wanted me to remain as captain. I felt awkward being a young guy and i have so much respect for Malts, but he was great and told me I had nothing to worry about. " he said.

DECEMBER

In the Boxing day clash the Steelers took on Cardiff Devils, and although going 2-1 behind ran out 6-3 winners, The game saw a feisty first period in which Steve Munn had two altercations the latter being retribution on Brad Voth after he elbowed Asley Tait mid ice: Voth susequently received a Match penalty.
